Days 1 and 2 of our 10 day Scottish cycle tour

It felt really good to be back on our bikes again today after 2 days of air travel and only a short ride from the airport yesterday.  Today's cycling consited of a glorious 60km coastal ride and inner city cycle tour of Edinburgh, eventually arriving at Edinburgh Castle.  Everything went well until we hit the tiny cobbled back alleys of Edinburgh, where we got terribly lost (everywhere looks like a scene out of a BBC 19th century TV drama). Luckily for us a sweet elderly Scottish couple on their early morning Sunday walk took pity and sent us back in the complete opposite direction.

Edinburgh castle is a magnificent structure, built into the natural rocks of a cliff face right in the middle of the city (I don't know how we managed to miss it really). Unfortunately it was Sunday and summer holidays for throngs of tourists, consequently the queue to get in was a couple of hours long, so we just enjoyed it from the outside.

Edinburgh is a really interesting and beautiful city, it has a lovely atmosphere and we could easily stay here longer, but the road beckons. Tomorrow we will be off into the rolling hills of the Borders region for the next 3  days of our journey. The weather has been perfect for cycling, cool, cloudy, with only the occasional rain shower, hopefully it will stay like this for the next 10 days, although a local busker told us there was no chance of that as Scottish summer includes plenty of blustery rain.

Bye for now
Sama
Sean had to reassemble the bikes at Edinburgh Airport. Edinburgh is a very bike friendly city except for the occasional flight of stairs.

Finally found the castle
